Backcountry Hunters & Anglers

2018 January 23
by BCW

This past weekend, public lands adversary Cliven Bundy headlined an anti-public lands gathering in rural Paradise, Montana. With his son Ryan Bundy and Montana State Sen. Jennifer Fielder, Bundy openly called for the transfer and sale of our public lands – and for Montana ranchers to stop paying their federal grazing fees.

The face of the opposition to the latest Bundy shenanigans were courageous Backcountry Hunters & Anglers members from across Montana who were there with a simple message: 640 million acres of public lands belong to all of us, and we’re not going to let anyone steal our heritage.

Montana BHA board member Nick Siebrasse offers his well-informed take on the Bundy circus coming to Montana in his op-ed column.

The Bundy fervor isn’t dissipating, and it’s time for us to double down. We will beat back their ill-conceived ideas through education and numbers.

What can you do?

1) Join BHA. Attend an event. If you are already a member, encourage your friends and family to become members. Become a life member. Wear your public land owner gear loud and proud. We need all the help we can get.

2) Support BHA. Your tax-deductible donation goes a long way toward supporting our public lands and defending our hunting and fishing heritage.

3) Call your elected officials at 202-224-3121. Let them know that you support our national public lands and oppose the idea of land transfer. Draft an opinion column or letter to the editor and submit to your local newspaper.

I’m proud to lead an organization that stands up for our public lands and waters unequivocally. We have much yet to do!

Sincerely,

Ryan Busse
